Many of you have asked “What Happens Next?” in relation to legalized sports gaming here in Ohio. Here is a quick update on where Ohio is in the process of turning House Bill 29’s legislative language into bets being placed.

• The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) is tasked with taking the legislative language in HB 29 and turning it into rules, regulations, applications, systems and other items necessary to implement the bill’s provisions.

The bill sets January 1, 2023 as the date by which they must have sports gaming up and running here in Ohio.

• The Commission is in the early stages of that process – here is the page on their website where you can find the latest information on where they are in the process.

• Click here to view Sports Gaming materials presented at the Commission's December 2021 meeting.

• For those of you interested in staying current as the process here is a link to sign up for the OCCC sports gaming mailing list.

• The bill’s Type C language also establishes lottery sports gaming operated by the Ohio Lottery Commission through licensed proprietors’ kiosks at certain lottery sales agent locations who hold certain liquor permit establishments.

• The Ohio Lottery Commission is required to contract with the Type C Lottery Sports Gaming Proprietors and to recommend eligible lottery retailers for a Type C Lottery Sports Gaming Host license.
